One of my favorite states in all of New England, really all of the US, is Vermont.

If you do not spend any time in the Green Mountain state, you really should.

I think Burlington, Vermont, is the best downtown/weekend getaway in all of New England.

Since my wife and I have gone to Burlington every year for five years, we have noticed more and more homelessness.

It is terribly sad.

And it is even worse in the winter. Vermont gets cold. Real cold.

So when we are walking the streets bar-hopping, practically running to the nearest warm bar, we feel awful passing dozens of tents, sleeping bags, and people in need.

It turns out that Vermont is the fourth worst state when it comes to homelessness in America.

According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, 53 out of every 10,000 people in Vermont are homeless.

Back in 2023, that number was less - 51 out of every 10,000 people suffered from homelessness. So you could say the state is doing "worse" this year than last in dealing with this homelessness crisis in VT.

Currently, the state is increasing its capacity for emergency housing to combat this challenging time.
