Collecting seaglass is something everyone can relate to. You start doing it as a kid, picking up shiny, smooth, beautiful turquoise pieces into a plastic bucket.

Then, for many, as you become older, you still do it. This time, you put the glass in a mason jar or around centerpieces.

Not all beaches have the same amount of seaglass. There are certain beaches where seaglass is more prominent and more beautiful.

Since seaglass is caused by glass smoothing out from the waves, sand, and rocks below the water, some beaches produce more or better seaglass.

Best Beaches in Maine to Collect Seaglass

According to a NewEngland.com article, there are three beaches in Maine that are "the best" for collecting seaglass.

Great Diamond Island, Maine

This one is in Portland, ME, and again hard to get to because it is an island. But taking the ferry over is worth it to find amazing seaglass near the dock.

Mowry Beach

This beach preserve is unique. At low tide, you will find gorgeous seaglass...but also remnants of tree stumps.

This is a cool place to look for seaglass for nature lovers. The sandy beach is just part of the preserve that includes a boardwalk, woodlands, swamps, and bogs.

Spring Point Shoreway

This South Portland beach is known to have plentiful seaglass at low tide. Maybe being in South Portland, a drinking hot spot, "helps" the creation of seaglass. *Not suggesting throwing bottles into the ocean - just theorizing that is why there is more seaglass near Portland.
