(York, Maine ) - A York man died early yesterday morning from what police believe was a heroin overdose.

27 year old Joseph Cahill was found unconscious and not breathing about 1:30 a.m. when police were alerted to screaming coming from the Gosling Meadows public housing development in Portsmouth. Lifesaving efforts by police and firefighters were unsuccessful and Cahill was pronounced dead at the scene.  According to his online obituary, Cahill was born in Melrose, Mass., had worked at Jumpin' Jay's restaurant in Portsmouth, and  loved spending time with his family, which includes his son, Joseph Cahill Jr. A funeral mass is set for 11 a.m. on Friday in St. Christopher's church on 4 Barrell Lane, in York.
