Fan Favorite American Bistro in Kittery, Maine, Claims They Were Forced to Close
We hear about restaurants closing all the time, and it can happen for a multitude of reasons.
Anneke Jans has proudly stood in Kittery Foreside for the past two decades.
It has been a place for the community to gather to celebrate happy occasions like birthdays, graduations, engagements, anniversaries, retirements, and beyond.
Their seafood was delicious:
the drinks were 10/10:
and the outdoor dining area had impeccable vibes, especially in the Summertime:
A few days ago the owners Jason and Megan took to social media to share the sad news that they would be closing their doors permanently on January 12, 2025.
The vulnerability and thoughtfulness that went into this post is a testament to how much these owners respected and valued their customers.

The announcement states that the beautiful building that has housed Anneke Jans was bought by a company 9 years ago. They go on to say that the future plans of this building remain unclear but it was been communicated that Anneke Jans will not be a part of it.
They said the landlord would not extend their lease.
The post goes on to say It has been many years of back and forth with no resolution. Jason and Megan feel that they have done everything in their power to try to remain in the neighborhood (that they helped grow, mind you)
They end the post by thanking every single person who ever walked through their doors. Whether you were a patron or an employee you kept them going while all of this emotionally draining stuff was going on behind the scenes.
People in the comments section are extremely saddened by this news and are sharing fond memories they had at the restaurant which I'm sure the owners really appreciate reading.
Someone in the comments shared a post by Madbury Properties in response to Anneke Jans' closing announcement:
We are not sure what really went down but this goes to show that there are two sides to every story.
Nevertheless, I hope the owners of Anneke Jans are at peace with their decision and are able to lean on the wonderful memories they made with the community over the past two decades.
And I hope the people of Kittery get another great restaurant in the old Anneke Jans building because that location is truly top notch.
