Maine Medical Center shared amazing news on Friday, March 24, involving one of its recently born babies.

Winner was named the "'youngest' survivor to be born in Maine."

Coming into this world at just 22 weeks and 1 pound 2 ounces in July 2022, according to the hospital's Facebook post, the odds of survival were slim, but Winner was up to the challenge.

In fact, according to an article from the BBC, "data from 2016 showed there were 486 births at this stage [of 22 weeks] - and in more than 300 cases, the babies did not survive."

And yet, new research from the University of Rochester Medical Center highlighted that a baby's survival at 22 or 23 weeks has increased dramatically thanks to "improvement of care."

Winner is certainly a winner.

Maine Medical Center said that just last week she was finally able to leave the hospital and go home with her parents.

Granted, the journey isn't over for Winner as she'll still need the care of several specialists, but her future is bright.

Still, how incredible that this small baby has had such a big feat.

Can you even imagine a baby at 1 pound 2 ounces? Weightofstuff.com lists things like a paperback book or a shoe as a similar weight. So small!

The number of babies born each year tends to land in the 12,000s, according to data from Maine.gov, and it's exciting to think that the Pine Tree State is adding one more Maine native to its list.

Congratulations to Winner and her family! Predicting amazing things for you down the road!
