I had the pleasure of connecting with Sarra Dennehy Lynch on the air today. Sara first dipped her toes into the Best Buddies organization by participating in a national cycling event from Boston to Cape Cod. After that, she knew that she needed to bring Best Buddies to New Hampshire.

Sarra and her team founded the Best Buddies NH chapter in 2014, with the mission to support people with intellectual disabilities by creating opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living.

Sarra's son, Liam, who was in middle school at the time, became one of the chapter’s first members. Liam is now 21 years old and thriving at college in Wisconsin! To his mom's dismay, he barely calls home, because he's busy having too much fun. This is largely due to the confidence Liam gained through Best Buddies. For Sarra, one of the most rewarding aspects of running the state chapter is seeing how these friendships really transform people with and without IDD, forming connections that last a lifetime.

The organization is expanding, which we love to hear. This year, they are hosting not one, but two Friendship Walks in the state. These are fundraising events, so donations are encouraged but not required. This year's friendship walks will be taking place in Concord on Saturday, May 13, and in Exeter Saturday, June 17. These annual walks unite the community in this collective goal to transform human lives. Even if you can't attend the walks, there are so many ways that you can help Best Buddies New Hampshire and their mission. Learn more on their website.
