What if you could write down a wish, a memory, or a message from your heart and then watch it gently drift away across a lake?

That’s the magic behind the Lakes Region Lantern Festival, happening Sunday, September 6th, at the Center Harbor Town Docks in New Hampshire.

As the sun sets behind the mountains, thousands of eco-friendly lanterns will be set adrift on Lake Winnipesaukee, creating a breathtaking display of glowing lights across the water.

But this is more than just a beautiful sight. The Lakes Region Lantern Festival describes itself as a celebration of “hope, memory, and togetherness,” giving locals attending the opportunity to personalize their lanterns with their own messages and drawings. How cool is that!?

Maybe yours will carry a wish for the future. Maybe you’ll write the name of someone you miss, a message to someone you love, or simply a little hope you want to send out into the world.

Not to mention, it’s a picturesque moment that brings the entire community together.

The festival will also feature food and entertainment, with gates opening at 4:30 p.m. before the lanterns take to the water at sunset.

So, if you're looking for a meaningful way to close out the summer, this is it! Bring a wish, a memory, or a message and watch it float across the water, lighting Lake Winnipesaukee up with hope.
