New Hampshire and Maine Go Crazy for These Holiday Cookies
I have to admit, there's nothing like homemade holiday cookies. Honestly, there's not always enough time to hand roll, cut out, frost, ice and package these treats.
Sometimes, you have to go with the store bought holiday cookies, and they are not so bad. In fact, here are the top holiday cookies you can buy at Walmart or Target this holiday season, and still stand out as a thoughtful host or guest.
After talking to friends, family and co-workers, I realized there was a trend for the most popular cookies for Christmas. Then I tailored it to two of America's biggest retailers in the Maine and New Hampshire regions.
Ok, it's not rocket science, but the public has spoken, and these brands are big-time favorites, especially if you need something on your way to a party or just hanging out with your peeps on the weekend during the holidays.
Pirouline wafer cookies are always great to keep in your cupboard, but especially around Christmas. It's an easy dessert. Just add a bowl of whipped topping and you can dip the wafer in the whipped cream and have a luxurious afternoon.
Target offers their own brand, Favorite Day rolled wafers and either work. There's also a Pepperidge Farm version called Pirouette.
Frosted Sugar Cookies, whether Favorite Day Target brand, or Lofthouse, are right down the middle good tasting sugar cookies, and the frosting gives these treats extra flair on the table.
Pepperidge Farms Milano Cookies are divine any time of year, but the Milano Peppermint Slice during the holiday season are delicious and you don't feel like you've added to many calories to your forever diet...unless you eat the entire package, which is possible, trust me.
On the same level is the elegant, though messy, holiday classic from Archway, the Pfeffernusse cookie. It's a German Spice inside and pure powdered sugar outside and the combination melts and lingers in your mouth.
How can you resist Grandma's favorite cookies to have on hand for after school or weekend visits? Royal Dansk Danish Butter Cookies are a favorite for everyone to have in their pantry, for kids and adults. They're perfect to dunk in your coffee.
Refinery29.com tells us Nabisco's Oreo is by far the top selling store bought brand of cookie in America, so it's only natural the Christmas versions of Oreo's are the public first choice too.
I could warn you about the red and green dyes in the middle cream, but they are only around for a limited time, so live a little.
And here's an honorable mention. Little Debbie has long produced favorite cookies, like Oatmeal Creme Pies, and Swiss Rolls, but the Christmas Tree Cakes are yummy around the holidays and can be hard to find. Enjoy!
