This New England Breakfast Spot Is Worth the Drive

There are lots of great breakfast spots. But Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe, steeped in Boston history since 1927, may be the coolest ever. Charlie's is famous for serving African American jazz musicians during the time of segregated hotels and restaurants.

The walls at Charlie's are covered with photo's of a who's-who of famous musicians like jazz greats Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, and Sammy Davis, Jr. As a matter of fact, Sammy used to tap dance in front of the hotel for spare change. You'll also find autographed photos of actors like Al Pacino, sports stars like Tom Brady, and diverse collection of politicians.

Famous for their turkey hash, Charlie's menu hasn't changed much since it opened back in the twenties. They recently just re-opened after two months of remodeling. But it still retains it's old school charm...living up to their motto, "Like a diner. Only finer."
