Chance to See the Northern Lights in NH, Maine and Vermont
We may be in for a special treat in the skies if the weather stays clear.
According to Thrillist.com, the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) has predicted a G1 and G2 geomagnetic storm watch for September 27 till September 29. This will be the first time in a long time that the aurora borealis will be visible in the United States.
Although you can see the northern lights more commonly in Canada, this time we should be able to see the beautiful display in Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and even Upstate New York, the article stated.
There is no guarantee the forecast will be correct. Think about weather predictions here on Earth. Sometimes they are right and sometimes they are way off.
The first tip is to try and make sure the skies are clear of clouds. The second tip make sure you are far away from light pollution from the nearby cities. Try and get a view of the horizon that is not blocked by buildings or trees.
This should not be hard to do in New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont.
Also, wait until the sky is very dark, which means it will be way past my bedtime to try and get a look.
The Northern Lights should be viewable best on the horizon, not directly up in the sky, according to Thrillist.com. Just being able to view the aurora borealis depends on the weather forecast on the Sun and the Earth.
The trick to seeing them is patience. Just sit and keep your eye on the horizon. They may not be there continuously, so take your time and keep watching.
It’s a bit like fishing, the fish are in the water, but it may take some time to focus and see them.
