As we say sometimes, this one is personal.

City Shoes, on 10 Pleasant Street, Portsmouth, is permanently closing on December 15, 2025.

Cathy Tucker Reddington, the owner of City Shoes, posted a message on the Portsmouth, NH Facebook page.  Here are a few excerpts of what she posted:

Dear Friends and Loyal Customers,

It is with deep reflection and much gratitude that after 15 wonderful years of serving this community and building lasting relationships, Cathy has decided to close City Shoes.  .... I never imagined the journey ahead, the many lessons learned, the stories heard, the relationships built, and the smiling faces that would walk through the door..... To all of you who supported us, whether you made a single purchase or became a regular, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

The post doesn't really say why they are closing, but many on Facebook speculate it is because of retirement.

City Shoes describes itself as a shoe store with a "splash of fashion" and unparalleled customer service.  I have been a semi-regular customer of the store and I can whole heartedly agree with the customer service.  They really do make you feel at home.

Here is the Good News About This Portsmouth, NH Store Closing

The good news about all of this is that Club Boutique is going to remain open, just in a different location in Rye, NH.  Starting on February 1, 2026, Club Boutique will open at their new location on 150 Lafayette Road, Suite 1, Rye, New Hampshire.  The hours will be similar to the Portsmouth location - Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 12 - 5pm.

The clothes at Club Boutique are FAB.U.LOUS.  There are not many places you can go to that has the selection of clothes, special occasion dresses or just work clothes that they have.  I am looking forward to seeing their new space in Rye!
