Demon on Wheels: Driver Clocked at 106 MPH on Route 16 in Dover

Stop sticks were used to slow and eventually stop a driver who hit 106 mph on the Spaulding Turnpike early Friday morning and led police on a 44 mile pursuit, according to New Hampshire State Police.

A trooper clocked the 1996 Nissan Maxima around 2:20 a.m. in Dover and began to follow the vehicle south to Route 95 as its driver, later identified as Christopher Deputat, 31, of Laconia, allegedly weaved between lanes indicating to the trooper he may be impaired.

Deputat exited Route 95 at Route 101 and continued west where a Stratham police officer put stop sticks in the roadway and deflated several tires which slowed the vehicle but did not stop it, according to police. Deputat continued west to Route 125 in Epping and then headed north.

Down to three rims the Nissan west on Route 4 from the Lee Traffic Circle where Deputat  went off the road and into a ditch. Deputat allegedly fled on foot but was tracked down by K9 "Ida" and was arrested.

A passenger, Erica Boyd, 30, of Salisbury, was also taken into custody and held in protective custody as she appeared to be impaired, according to police.

Deputat was charged with felony reckless conduct, aggravated driving while intoxicated, disobeying an officer, driving after suspension, conduct after an accident, and resisting arrest. He is being held at the Strafford County Jail until his arraignment in the Strafford County Superior Court on Friday.

Early Monday morning Christopher M. Wren, 20, of Franklin, Massachusetts was stopped at the Rochester toll plaza on the Spaulding Turnpike after police say he hit 142 mph.
