Fire on Manchester’s West Side Was Insane (But at Least North Garden Was Spared)
It took firefighters from nearly a dozen area towns to combat this massive blaze.
On Sunday afternoon I was driving on 293 N in Manchester headed towards Spare Time Bowling on Valley St. when I noticed this HUGE cloud of black smoke coming from the west side of town.
The smoke cloud traveled across 293, into the Millyard/ Downtown areas on the East side of the Merrimack River. It was a strong smoke smell all over town.
WMUR posted the story citing that the vacant Mast Road building used to house a sign company until a few years ago. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
North Garden Chinese Food Restaurant is right next door. Apparently it's existence was in jeopardy for a while. I'm a huge fan of this place. If you ever go I recommend their dumplings. The Scorpion Bowl is good too as long as you call a cab or have an Uber account.
I spoke with Manchester District Fire Chief Al Poulin who said that despite the fire burning out of control for several hours, it could've been a lot worse. Manchester Engines 2 & 6 along with Truck 7 were able to save North Garden by keeping a water curtain around the building to avoid spreading the flames. The owner said they will be closed for at least a few weeks because of damage.
It appears no one was hurt in the blaze. On Facebook Manchester Information had some incredible shots posted here.
Oh....and in case you're wondering I bowled a 164. Not too shabby.
