A Husband’s Diagnosis Inspired This New Hampshire Gluten-Free Bakery Built on Love
I'll be the first to admit it: finding a good gluten-free treat isn't always easy!
I may be a serious foodie, but I do have a health condition that is way more manageable on a gluten-free / dairy-free diet. I've spent more time than I'd like wandering through bakeries staring longingly at display cases full of things I really shouldn't eat and passing on the opportunities to do so. It's not that I CAN'T enjoy them entirely, just in moderation.
But what's the fun in that!?
If you're gluten-free, dairy-free, or dealing with food sensitivities, you know the feeling. Sometimes you just want a cookie, a muffin, or a loaf of bread that tastes like the real thing.
That's why I was excited to discover Gluten Free or Die Bakery in Belmont, New Hampshire.
Behind the business is Angela, a baker originally from Chile. Her journey started when her husband was diagnosed with celiac disease and later discovered additional food sensitivities. Determined to recreate some of the foods he missed most, she began experimenting in the kitchen, working to develop gluten-free recipes that didn't feel like a compromise.
Now THAT'S love!
Eventually, Angela found herself embracing a gluten-free lifestyle as well due to an autoimmune condition. What started as baking for her family slowly evolved into something much bigger.
Today, she creates a variety of baked goods from her Belmont "homestead kitchen", which has never handled gluten. Since 2021, she's been sharing her creations with customers throughout New Hampshire's Lakes Region through farmers' markets and local retailers.
I've sampled more than my fair share of gluten-free baked goods over the years; I can tell you that texture is often where gluten-free treats miss the mark. Dry, crumbly, and flavorless are words I've unfortunately used more than once. That's why it's always refreshing to find local bakers who are dedicated to creating products that don't make you feel like you're settling.
Whether you're living with celiac disease, managing food sensitivities, or just looking to support a local small business, this Belmont bakery is proof that some of the best treats in New Hampshire come from passionate people baking with a purpose.
Haven't tried gluten-free treats before? Take this as your sign! Enjoy the treats without the guilt (or suffering).
