Hampton Beach turned to social media to get ahead of false claims that it has syphilis.

The satirical Nashua News Network recently wrote about the spread of STD's on the seacoast. Some people apparently mistook the satire as hard news, leading to the beach trying to set the record straight.

 

The Nashua News Network, for its part, appears to have deleted the original post that caused the initial uproar. However, they do offer up some tongue in cheek clarification.

 

In summary, and we want to make this abundantly clear, you can't get syphilis by swimming at the beach. Even so, we recommend using sunscreen for protection.
