Northbound traffic stalled for miles after an accident at mile 34.

According to WGME 13, Maine State Troopers say say a southbound car went out of control and collided with a tractor-trailer. The truck then crossed the median and struck a car on the northbound side of the highway.

Also according to Maine State Police, the vehicle that started the chain of events did not stop. Details are still being gathered, and it's only description was a small maroon car. According to WGME, the driver of the second car suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while the truck driver was reportedly okay. Traffic was backed up for nearly 7 miles at one point.

Talk about lucking out this morning. One, my commute from Saco, Maine to Dover, New Hampshire requires southbound travel on the Maine Turnpike. While most traffic is Portland-bound, I'm generally home home free in relation to traffic congestion. This morning, I gave the 24lb cat an extra belly rub, and ended up running a few minutes late. Turns out, the accident unfolded at about the same time I normally pass this area. Southbound delays were nothing like northbound endured.
