How Long Should a Round of Golf Take: From a Golf Husband in New Hampshire
As a golfer in New England often the best time of year to play is the fall. It is not too hot to be outside, the leaves are changing, and the price is cheaper - it is the best time for golf.
I am not saying this happens a lot or not; however, there is this stereotype that wives hate their husbands golfing.
Not saying it is true or not (my wife is very accepting of my hobby) - but the stereotype 100% exists.
One of the major issues the stereotype claims is that golf takes too long.
A hilarious stitch (pairing of two videos. One being original and the second being a reaction to the original) trend went around recently about a girlfriend who said her boyfriend needed 9 hours to play golf. She asked her followers if that was accurate.
Men everywhere said things like "Oh I can't believe he gets it done that fast," and "Sounds about right." See the trend here.
Now obviously that is not exactly true.
9 holes of golf take roughly 2 hours. Could it be an hour and 45? Sure. Could it be 2 and a half? Absolutely. You never know if there is a slow group in front of you or other situations of your control.
18 holes? Simply double it. So 4 hours with a leeway of up to 1 hour.
BUT WAIT. HERE IS WHY IT TAKES LONGER.
If my wife goes shopping, her hobby, like mine is golf, she will 100% stop for a dirty chia latte. Now that is equivalent to our warm-up.
We like to get there early to stretch, get loose, and maybe have a pre-round beer. Add 30 minutes.
"Can't you just play 9 and not 18?" A common and stereotypical question wives may ask husbands (and vise versa / every which way here - golf is for everyone).
To that, I would say my wife may stop at TJ. Maxx but she 100% is going to go to Marshalls. Or Home Goods then Home Sense. They are basically the same store, but they are slightly different. Different items. Different experiences. Different stomping grounds to chat with her friends.
The back 9 is slightly different from the front and we want to do both too.
Add the extra 2 hours to play an extra 9 and make it a full 18.
Lastly, after a round of golf, another "option" time sucker is the post-round drink. This comes along with 30-60 minutes of talking about the round, catching up, and reliving good memories.
Not a "needed" part of the round but a crucial one for friendship's sake.
So sure, 18 holes of golf COULD, maybe, on a perfect day and no extra fun, take 3 hours and 30 minutes, with the average being 4.
But to really get the full experience it could take up to 7...or 8...
