When it comes to winter in New England you have to embrace it.

Complaining about the secondary winter in March, the wind, or anything else that comes with winters in New England is useless.

The most important thing in winter is always making the most of it. Going shopping in a blizzard, sledding on a random Tuesday night, and for most (me anyway) ice skating.

Ice Skating in New England

Normally I would recommend staying local/a smaller rink. There is a beautiful outdoor rink in downtown Portsmouth, NH overlooking the Pisquatica River that I always go to.

Other days, however, driving into Boston can take an average day to a different level.

There is a phenomenal ice rink in Boston Common that is open for the season and would make a great winter day.

Frog Pond Boston Ice Skating

For as long as I can remember, Frog Pond has been transformed into an outdoor ice rink every winter. It is really well done because they have been doing this for so long.

For anyone under 58 inches skating on Frog Pond is 100% free, according to the website. Anyone taller than 58 would only need to pay $10 - so a cheap date.

Plus it is right in the city, so you can explore, shop, hit a bar or restaurant before or after - and look at the scenery.
