One of Maine’s Most Beautiful Fall Drives Ends With an Incredible View
If there's one thing we Mainers know how to do, it's appreciate a good fall foliage drive. And while places like Acadia National Park get most of the attention, there's another spot in western Maine that might just give it a run for its money.
I'm talking about the Height of Land Scenic Overlook in Rangeley, and if you've never been, you're seriously missing out.
Located along Route 17, the overlook is part of the Rangeley Lakes National Scenic Byway, which winds through some of the most beautiful mountains, forests, and lakes you'll find anywhere in Maine.
And the best part? You don't have to hike three miles up a mountain to enjoy it!
Just pull into the roadside overlook, get out of your vehicle, and prepare to have your breath taken away.
From there, you'll enjoy an absolutely spectacular panoramic view of Mooselookmeguntic Lake, the surrounding mountains, and miles of gorgeous Maine wilderness.
During peak foliage season, the entire landscape becomes a sea of brilliant reds, oranges, and yellows. It's one of those views that pictures simply don't do justice.
But here's where I'd take this little road trip one step further.
After you've taken approximately 437 pictures of the same incredible view, keep heading toward downtown Rangeley and grab lunch at Sarge's Sports Pub & Grub on Main Street.
It's a great little spot with a laid-back atmosphere, burgers, sandwiches, pizza, wings, and plenty of other pub favorites. They even have a deck overlooking Haley Pond!
Honestly, what's better than spending an afternoon enjoying some of Maine's most incredible scenery and then grabbing a delicious lunch?
So, whether you're planning a weekend adventure with the family or just looking for an excuse to get out and enjoy Maine, put Rangeley's Height of Land on your list.
Trust me, this is one Maine road trip worth taking!
