Southern Maine’s gluten-free community finally has something big to celebrate this summer. Docks Seafood has officially announced that all of their fried food is now 100% gluten free, opening the door for people with gluten sensitivities and allergies to finally enjoy classic Maine seafood without the stress of missing out.

After weeks of testing and development, the South Portland seafood favorite shared that they’ve completely revamped their clam fry recipe and now make their gluten-free coating in-house. That means longtime gluten-free diners are no longer limited to side dishes or substitutions. Guests can now safely enjoy fish and chips, whole belly clams, scallops, shrimp, calamari, and even fried chicken, all prepared gluten free.

For many people living with celiac disease or gluten intolerance, fried seafood has traditionally been off limits because of cross contamination and wheat-based batters. In a place like Maine, where fried seafood is practically a summer tradition, this announcement feels especially exciting.

Docks Seafood also shared that the update greatly expands their gluten-free menu overall, including blackened tacos and additional options, with gluten-free bread hopefully coming in the future.

It’s always exciting to see local restaurants take food allergies seriously while still delivering the authentic Maine seafood experience people love. For gluten-free diners across Southern Maine, this is the kind of summer food news worth celebrating.
