With a nasty April 2024 Nor'easter bringing heavy wet snow and winds, it's no surprise that the road conditions would not be great.

Some might even say "wicked bad."

According to a Facebook post from the Maine State Police, about 46 crashes/slide-offs occurred on the Interstate and the Turnpike since 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, to about 1 p.m. Thursday, April 4.

And unfortunately, the snowstorm isn't over, meaning there's a chance for more.

The police noted that most people have listened to the numerous calls from various outlets to stay home and off the roads if possible due to the "quickly deteriorated road conditions" caused by the storm.

But really, if you don't have to be out, don't be out. There's no need to risk it and wind up in a ditch or worse.

And for those that don't get a "snow day" and still have to go to work, drive safe and be careful out there!

The Maine State Police reiterated that the MaineDOT and Turnpike Authority crews were out working hard on the roads amid the heavy snow coming down.

They also stated that if you do happen to have to go out, "use extreme caution, drive slow and leave plenty of room between you and the car ahead of you."

Tips for Driving in the Snow in Maine

Funnily enough, AAA's first tip for driving in the snow is "don't." Sure, fair, but if you have to go out, the organization does state that you should drive slow, avoid unnecessary stops and definitely keep a larger distance between vehicles.

And if you'd rather watch your tips rather than read them, you can check out AAA's video on YouTube.
