25 Unique Things Mainers Put on Top of Their Christmas Trees
Scoot over angel and star, we've got some very creative tree toppers.
Christmas trees are like people and snowflakes. No two are alike. There are trees decorated where every ornament matches, and those matching ornaments match the decor of the house. Some trees look like a walking garage sale. There are trees that have themes and all the decorations are of that theme. It's cool. But what goes on the top of the tree has always been where you place the most special ornament or topper of all.
Gnomes are wicked popular in Maine.
I've never thought of putting a gnome on top of the tree, and it appears I am sadly behind the times. There were a couple of gnomes that sat on top of the tree for people. Gnomes get me every time. I can't help but just adore them. There's something about them that makes me think of a sweet little old man that you want to hug.
The top of the Christmas tree can honor those who have passed.
When you lose someone close to you but still want them around for Christmas, it's popular to put something of theirs on top of the tree. Like this Napa hat. I love this. It lets you remember them all the time, and they are part of the festivities and craziness that the holidays bring.
Do you go traditional with what you put on top of your Christmas tree? The star and angel are by far the most traditional. But maybe you have a little more fun with your topper. Can you beat a can of sardines?
