Driver Leads State Police on High Speed Pursuit on NH’s Route 101

A Derry man led New Hampshire State Police on a high speed multi-town pursuit on Route 101 on Tuesday night after he left a traffic stop.

Robert Sullivan, 41, was stopped in Exeter in the westbound lanes in Exeter just after 7 p.m. for a "lane violation which posed a hazard to the motoring public", as well as a registration violation, according to State Police. Sullivan pulled his 2006 Chevrolet 1500 pickup into the breakdown lane, but then sped off.

State Police said they then followed Sullivan through Brentwood, Epping, and Raymond as he changed lanes and passed vehicles unsafely. Sullivan abandoned his pickup in a travel lane and ran off on foot after troopers used a device to deflate the front right tire. The pickup drifted along the highway and into a ditch.

K-9 Ida was used to capture Sullivan as he tried to run across the eastbound lanes of Route 101. The road was closed for about 20 minutes as troopers investigated the area and removed the pickup from the roadway.

Sullivan was taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation before being charged with reckless conduct, disobeying an officer, operating after suspension subsequent offense, driving without giving proof, resisting arrest or detention, and reckless operation. He was released on personal recognizance bail pending an appearance in the Rockingham County Superior Court on October 20.
