Kira’s Favorite Moments From Her Thailand Honeymoon

Thailand was a dream. If you can bear the 21-hour flight, I highly recommend a visit! Thai people are incredibly friendly and polite. I have broken up my Thailand vacation into my four favorite aspects; the food, scenery, animals, and culture. Here are photos of each for your viewing pleasure :)

The Food:

OMG where do I begin? Thai food is a party for your taste buds. If you love spicy, flavorful food then Thai cuisine is right up your alley. My favorite dishes, you ask? Khao Soi Gai: a spicy coconut curry soup traditionally enjoyed in the north of Thailand. Mango sticky rice: exactly what it sounds like.

The Scenery:

This country has it all! You can see tall skyscrapers in the bustling city of Bangkok or a 500-year-old temple on top of a mountain in Chiang Mai. Or my personal favorite, the gorgeous blue water and white sandy beaches on the islands of Koh Samui and Koh Tao.

The Animals:

My favorite day was when we went to the Baan Chang Elephant Sanctuary. We learned that mama elephants are pregnant for TWO YEARS and when the baby elephants are born they are 140 pounds. Then they nurse for another two years. That's a whole lot of mothering. A lot of the elephants we hung out with had been rescued from the circus or the logging industry.

Elephants weren't the only animals I bonded with on my trip. I hung out with two lizards at a beach party in Koh Samui and then made a dog friend named Johnny in Koh Tao. It was sad to see all of the stray dogs and cats, especially in Bangkok. I wanted to take them all on the plane home with me!

The Culture

There are so many temples and ancient structures you can see in Thailand, it was tough to choose which ones to visit! We ended up visiting the Wat Pho Buddhist temple in Bangkok. It houses the reclining Buddha statue which is 150 feet long and 50 feet tall, one of the largest statues in the country.

We also visited the Wat Phra That Doi Suthep which is a Buddhist temple in Chiang Mai (a city in Northern Thailand) The temple is an iconic symbol of Chiang Mai and is located on top of Doi Suthep mountain and offers breathtaking views of the city from various lookouts.

There is so much to see in this incredible country, it's impossible to see it all in two weeks. I am so happy with what we did see and feel really fortunate to have experienced it. I feel especially lucky to have had the best travel companion by my side, my hunky husband Steven!
