Major League Player from Maine On A Tear With New Team
Maine's Ryan Flaherty has bounced around Major League Baseball, and might have finally found a home with the Atlanta Braves.
Flaherty, who signed with the Braves after being released from the Philadelphia Phillies, has gone on a tear with his new team. Ryan is 7 for 13 in the first three games. On Saturday night, he had four hits and scored an equal amount of times as the Braves smacked the team which released him. For a guy who has played nearly every position, his hot start has local fans optimistic. A graduate of Portland's Deering High, Flaherty spent his first six seasons with the Baltimore Orioles. This season, he was signed to a minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, after being released by Baltimore. Ryan told the Portland Press Herald in February he would have to compete for a job. In the same interview he stated "I know it sounds cliche, but you take it one day at a time. It’s all you can do. You start worrying about this, or worrying about that, it will eat you up.”
Turns out, he followed his own advice, and it's paying off handsomely.
