‘Masshole’ is Now Officially a Word
We all see them on the road and some of us are proud to be one of them. 'Masshole' has been added to the Oxford English Dictionary.
Boston is my home and I'm proud of the way I was taught to drive. Sounds like something a 'Masshole' would say, right? You are absolutely correct! It was just announced 'Masshole' is now being officially recognized as a word by the OED (Oxford English Dictionary.)
Masshole (n., 1989): term of contempt for a native or inhabitant of the state of Massachusetts. This is what is known as a blended word, which Lewis Carroll called portmanteaus, naming them after a suitcase that unfolds into two equal parts.
According to the article in 'Time,' some 500 words have been added this year. Some of those include:
*Hot Mess
*Fo' Shizzle
*Stanky
*FLOTUS
*Koozie
