Get More Vacation Time in 2025: Tips for New England Workers

If you are bummed because Christmas and New Years Day are mid-week this year, you are not alone.

Mid-week holidays are the worst because either way you can't squeak an extra day to make it a long weekend on either end.

But check this out. In 2025 there are 6 national holidays which land on either a Monday, or Friday, so all you need use is one day of PTO, and you get a 4-day weekend.

According to USAToday.com, not everyone has all of these holidays off, but schools will definitely be closed, and so will government jobs.

Here's how you can make a New England ski weekend stretch to a 4-day weekend and only take one day of PTO (paid time off).  Use one vacation day for Friday, January 17, and with many companies closed on Monday, January 20, voile', there's a 4 day weekend for one day of PTO.

Valentine's Double Play

Do you realize Valentine's Day is on Friday, February 14th?  So take the day off and get a 4-day weekend.  How?  Well, Monday February 17th is President's Day, a national holiday.  That will make a lovely twist to a sweetheart's long weekend.
