Did You Know the Founders of McDonald’s Went to This New Hampshire High School?
So I was scrolling on Netflix looking for something I HAD NOT SEEN (always a difficult task) and I stumbled upon the movie "The Founder."
The movie stars Michael Keaton as Ray Kroc, the man who helps take the McDonald brothers' first restaurant, McDonald's, into the franchise that it is today.
At least, I think that is where it is going...I actually paused the movie once I learned that the McDonald brothers were from New Hampshire...
I had never been more excited to fact-check something.
Is the founder of McDonald's from New Hampshire?
SPOILERS OF THE MOVIE BELOW (but it is based on real-life so keep reading).
Ray Kroc, the man who bought out McDonald's from the McDonald brothers, is generally known as the founder; however, the story starts before Kroc.
Mac and Dick McDonald started the first McDonald's in 1940. They had 25 menu items including BBQ options; however, after realizing their most selling items were burgers, fries, and soda, they closed to change how they operated.
And the fast food concept was born.
But did you know that Mac and Dick Mcdonald, the original founders of Mcdonald's, grew up in New Hampshire?
This is where I paused the movie.
Mac and Dick grew up in Manchester, New Hampshire. Mac went to Central and Dick went to West High School.
According to a New England Historical Society article, when Mac and Dick's father lost his job at the shoe factory in Manchester, they all moved to California.
This was right after the brothers graduated from Central and West High.
