At the time of the writing of this article, it is the end of May, beginning of June. Mount Washington got 6 inches of snow over the past two days. That got me wondering about the other facts about our Grand 6,288 foot Mountain.

It's Doesn't Just Snow in December on This NH Mountain
Snow on Mount Washington is not something that only occurs in the Winter. The Mountain has snowfall for every month of the year.
2015 Was a Very Warm Year on the Mountain
After knowing that it snows every month on the Mountain, can you imagine how concerned they must have been at Mount Washington Observatory when there was no snow for three months. There is one exception to the "snow in every month" statement. The summit did not see any snowfall in June, July, August and September of 2015.
The Average Snow Fall on the Mountain May Shock You
Can you believe that the Mountain sees over 23 feet of snow every year, or 281.2" of snow! Wow. That is a lot of shoveling!
The Most Snow Mount Washington Ever Got
In 1968 - 1969, Mount Washington's summit saw double the amount of snow that they usually had in one season. It was a record at 566.4" or 47 feet. Holy igloo! That February of 1969, the summit got 49.3" in 24 hours!

The Mount Washington Observatory Has a Cat
The current cat on the Mountain is a grey shorthaired kitty named Nimbus. Before he came to NH, he was wandering the streets of Oklahoma and his name was Greg. The observatory has had a cat since the observatory existed in 1932.
To be honest, I'm not sure how someone stays at the Mount Washington Observatory for any length of time. I've never been, but all I can imagine is constant teeth chattering, lots of coffee and lots of layers!
I do love that Mountain though - especially Nimbus the Cat. Check out the photos of their feline friend here.
