Hastert due in court
Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert is scheduled for arraignment today on federal charges that he agreed to pay $3.5 million to conceal officially undefined misconduct from his days as a high school teacher. The indictment says Hastert had paid $1.7 million before federal agents began scrutinizing the transactions. A person familiar with the allegations says the secret involves alleged sexual misconduct.
Dozens displaced by Nashua fire
An overnight fire in a pair of Nashua buildings has put dozens of people out of their homes. Authorities say residents of the buildings -- with businesses ln the bottom floor and apartments further up -- escaped the flames safely. One firefighter was hurt and taken to a hospital with undisclosed injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Maine governor vetoes bills
Governor Paul LePage has followed through on his threat to begin vetoing all bills sponsored by legislative Democrats as payback for their blocking of his proposal to eliminate the state income tax. LePage vetoed 10 Democratic bills yesterday, also vetoing two bills sponsored by Republicans.
