Hollande says French Muslims will be protected 
French President Francois Hollande says the country's millions of Muslims should be protected and respected and in turn they should also respect the nation's strict secular policies. Last week's terror attacks that killed17 people in France have prompted scattered retaliatory attacks on Muslim sites around the country and have put many French Muslims on the defensive.

Arguments set for today in Addison's appeal
Lawyers for a man convicted of killing a Manchester police officer will argue that the death sentence he received was unfair compared to similar crimes across the country. The state Supreme Court is set to hear arguments today in the final direct appeal of Michael Addison's sentence. Addison was convicted of killing Officer Michael Briggs in 2006.

Man pleads guilty to putting boy in dryer
A New Hampshire man who put his girlfriend's 2-year-old son inside a running clothes dryer at her Bangor home has pleaded guilty to assault. Adam Morton, of Berlin, entered his plea in a Bangor courtroom on Tuesday. Authorities say the 27-year-old Morton was taking care of the boy in August while his girlfriend was at work. The boy suffered second-degree burns on his arms and back and burns and blisters on his feet. Morton is scheduled to be sentenced February 2.
