NSA loses wide-ranging surveillance authority
The National Security Agency's authority to engage in widespread collection of Americans' phone records has lapsed overnight. That happened when the Senate, meeting in a rare Sunday night session, failed to act on legislation renewing the terrorism-era Patriot Act. The soonest the Senate could act to restore this power will be tomorrow when lawmakers consider a House-passed bill that would retain most of NSA's authority in this area but overhaul its bulk surveillance program.

Busy week at State House
State lawmakers are preparing for a busy week ahead. The state House is set to take up workers' compensation reform, voter residency requirements and more this week. Meanwhile, the Senate is expected to vote on its $11.3 billion budget.

Remains of POW from Exeter on their way home
The remains of a New Hampshire soldier taken prisoner during the Korean War are returning to his hometown of Exeter for burial with full military honors. Family members of Cpl. Elmer Richard say his remains - identified through his brother's DNA - are scheduled to be returned today. Burial will be Wednesday on what would have been his 85th birthday.
