Name of Man Killed in North Hampton, NH Fire Released

Officials have released the name of the man who was killed in an early morning house fire on Wednesday.

The man was identified as James Booth, 64, of North Hampton. According to public records, he lived at the house on Woodknoll Drive.

An autopsy revealed that Booth's cause of death was smoke inhalation with underlying heart and lung disease.

Booth's death was ruled as accidental, according to a press release from officials at the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal's Office.

State Fire Marshal Sean Toomey is reminding people of the importance of having working smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside of each separate sleeping area and on each level of their homes. 

This includes basements and habitable attics.

North Hampton Fire Chief Jason Lajoie said earlier in the day that emergency rescue crews were called to 20 Woodknoll Drive at about 3:45 a.m.

Two police officers were transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation. They were treated and released.
