New Hampshire Moose Mating Season Has Begun, Drivers Be Careful

Ah, the fall air, crisp and sweet.  Do you know what that means?  Love is in the air, for the moose population that is per reporting from wmur.com.  New Hampshire has seen a significant uptick in its moose population since the 1880s when only about 50 moose were left in the State. The moose population started to come back strong in the 1970s.

Local Police Remind Drivers to be Cautious

Be alert.  According to wmur.com, Carroll Police say in a Facebook post “Use caution when driving at night, reduce your speed, and always keep a watchful eye along the road.”  All good advice on any night but especially during moose mating season.  If you have never had an up-close and personal view of one, they are massive creatures weighing in at around 700 pounds and more than 6 feet tall. I have never seen one in person, but I have been to Kittery Trading Post and seen the stuffed one they have.  Not something I want to encounter while driving.

This is the Time of Year for the Bull Moose to Get Crazy

Now is the time of year that the male bull moose is looking for a mate.  Some moose are sadly looking for love in all the wrong places, like our highways.    Just remember if you see one on the road, take care, find a safe spot to stop, and do not exit your vehicle.  A bull moose in a rut is nothing to mess with.

I find moose to be stunning, an amazing animal also a little weird looking
