The fire and police departments across northern New England are really leading the way on giving back!

The latest? It's Newington Fire Department, which collected 400 pounds of food for their community.

According to a Facebook post from InfoNH, they didn’t do it alone. The Fire Department teamed up with the End 68 Hours of Hunger Food Drive, a public nonprofit that works to ensure that kids have food when they normally don’t have access, like weekends and breakfast time.

Chief Hoyt told Infonh that they received so much support from residents and it was great to be able to spread holiday cheer.

Not only did they raise a whole lot of food, they delivered in style too!

The Newington Fire Department partnered with Santa Claus, continuing an annual tradition. They climbed aboard Santa’s sleigh to visit residents on a tour through town this past Friday, collecting donations along the way.
