NH Schools Increased Pay and Incentives for Substitute Teachers

This certainly isn't a hot take but teachers don't make nearly enough money in this country. Educators have one of the most important jobs there is. My parents were both teachers in our town in Massachusetts so this subject is near and dear to my heart.

Substitute teachers notoriously make significantly less than teachers. However, we are in serious need of substitute teachers here in the Granite State so that all is about to change.

According to WMUR, some school districts in New Hampshire are willing to pay substitute teachers double what they used to make in hopes of attracting new candidates. The article goes on to explain that qualified substitute teachers have always been hard to come by but the pandemic has exacerbated this issue.

In desperate times librarians or even principals have been tapped in to be substitutes.

The news site said on a search on Indeed.com, they found that the Nashua school district was offering the highest rates starting at $115 and $175 a day for certified teachers! That is a lot better than the average daily rate before the pandemic which was between $70 and $100.

Typically substitute teachers are "on call" and won't find out if they are needed until early that morning. It appears that won't be the case this year. If a school district hires you as a sub, you will definitely be needed! Anyone who is looking to pursue a career in education is urged to apply.
