When I first saw the post about the Old Salt and Lamie's Inn, I was scared. I thought it might be a post about them closing, but it's NOT.  After 40 years, the Higgins family is taking a well deserved permanent break and they have sold to a new family, John and Laurie Guertin.

Their Facebook post thanked all of their patrons, including the tourists, who would come back again and again.

Remember The Old Salt Fire of 1999 on Hampton Beach?

From the Old Salt's website, they recount how tragedy struck the Old Salt's original location on Hampton Beach.  The fire began on the stairs of the building and quickly spread.  The fire destroyed three buildings and they had to find another place to operate.

After only two weeks after the fire, they began their operation again at the Whale's Tale in the Hampton Beach Casino complex.  They then bought the property in Downtown Hampton and opened up the restaurant in March of 2001.

Reaction from Fans of the Old Salt and Lamie's Inn

Lisa, from their Facebook post, said that she had her wedding reception at Lamie's Inn in 1993.

That property is timeless. I wish the previous owners a wonderful retirement and the new owners should have no problem carrying things forward. Thank you for your time energy and resources spent over the years.

Leslie's reaction, I think echoes what so many patrons are thinking:

I hope they don't change a thing. If it aint' broke, don't fix it!! One of my favorite places!!!!

Will Gift Certificates for the Old Salt and Lamie's Inn Be Honored with the New Owners?

If you have reservations or a gift certificate, they all will be honored by the new owners.  If you have scheduled a function there, your date will still be honored.  The Higgins family sounded like they are confident that the new owners will treat their baby well.  The new owners are planning on keeping the staff and provide the same atmosphere that we all have become accustomed to.

The Old Salt, like so many others, is one of my favorite places to eat.  My sister and I just went there and got a table by the fireplace.  The staff was amazing, as always, the food delicious and the comforting vibe was just what we were there for.  All the best to the new owners.  We'll be there!
