Okay, okay, okay. Let's talk about a pain point in New England: pumpkin spice.

Pumpkin spice ice cream, coffees, lattes, etc. being released in August has triggered people, as it has for the past decade.

"It's not fall", "It's gross", and "It's basic" are all common complaints we'll hear for the next month or so.

Here is my take on the pumpkin spice situation: make it FALL EXCLUSIVE, or make it year-round.

No in-between.

To the people who complain about pumpkin spice becoming available in August, I get it (kind of). You are trying to hold onto summer for as long as you possibly can.

When pumpkin gets going around August, there are signs everywhere, and conversations about it. It just feels like we are skipping the last month of summer.

So if pumpkin spice is going to be a "seasonal" thing, make it seasonal, dammit.

August is NOT fall, and therefore, pumpkin spice should not be available.

IF we want pumpkin spice to be available in August, just make that sucker year-round.

And I am fine with this option too. Caramel (which feels like a wintery flavor) is available year-round. French vanilla (not seasonal) is always available year-round.

So why not pumpkin spice? If you can get it in August, you should also be able to get it in May.

To all my p-spice dealers out there, make up your mind. If pumpkin is seasonal, make it during the FALL ONLY. Or, if you want to serve it up in August, just make it available year-round...but don't try to do both.

August is not fall.
