Red Rover Creamery announced on social media that it would be closing for good.

Thankfully, it's not an abrupt closing.

The little ice cream shop in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, plans to wrap things up by the end of October, giving people a chance to get in one last scoop... or two... or three.

When Does Red Rover Creamery in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Close?

Red Rover Creamery got its start back in 2019, about a year before the pandemic.

It not only managed to survive during that time, but it also established itself as a popular spot to visit in the area.

Now, after about seven years, the ice cream shop is sadly closing its doors, with its last day being on October 31, 2026, according to a letter shared on its website.

Why Is Red Rover Creamery in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Closing?

In an open letter to its customers, owner Sarah Amsden said that the closure comes after months of delays with an expansion that was supposed to give Red Rover the additional kitchen space it needed to increase production, hours, and menu offerings.

Amsden said that unfortunately, a recent electrical issue involving the new kitchen stalled the project, and without that extra space, the business just couldn't afford to make it through another slow season.

"November through April are always tough months for us and have been a large part of why we can’t afford to offer more at our shop. Covering the shortfall from our personal finances has become a standard practice for us," she said, noting the decision to close did not come lightly. "Eric and I both believed we could overcome this hardship with the new space by increasing our opening days and hours, expanding our menu offerings and adjusting our business model for the off season. All of this would have been possible with the new kitchen space."

Sadly, that path just wasn't in the cards for Red Rover.
