His former mentor Jon Stewart has retired and now Stephen Colbert has announced his first guest as he gets ready to take over as host of THE LATE SHOW on CBS starting on September 8th.

Colbert announced that the first guest on his program will be George Clooney.  He waited to make the announcement so as not to overshadow the retirement of his former "boss"  Stewart.  Colbert took part in last Thursday nights sign off on Comedy Central.

A new marquee has been put on the front of the Ed Sullivan Theater on Broadway in New York City marking the departure of David Letterman and the start of the Colbert era. One interesting side note, Rupert Jee and Hello Deli a neighbor of the theater was a part of the Letterman show and featured a David Letterman sandwich.  Now it's been changed to "The Colbert"  In case you wanted to know it's made up of a breaded chicken cutlet, American cheese, sweet peppers, lettuce and tomatoes with mayo on a sub roll

Rupert Jee who appeared many times on the Letterman show told the New York Daily News.

“It was very painful to remove Dave’s name from that,” said deli owner Rupert Jee. “I just wanted to play it safe and not insult anybody by leaving Dave’s name there.”

It is unknown if Rupert will involved with the Colbert show.

I got to see the Letterman show tape about 5 years ago and somewhere on a digital camera I have a picture of me and Rupert at the Hello Deli,  I didn't buy a sandwich but instead a souvenir t-shirt from the deli.  Now I just wish I could find the picture to post here. I gotta get organized.
