Did you Know Taylor Swift Played on the Deck at this Iconic Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Bar?
I am a Swiftie through and through! I have embraced and loved Tay Tay through her many eras, from the "Teardrops On My Guitar" Taylor with the long blonde curls to the messy French braid "folklore" and "evermore" Taylor, and every Taylor in between!
We are the same age, so I honestly feel like we grew up together.
It warms my heart that the radio station I host mornings on, 97.5 WOKQ in Dover, New Hampshire, is the very first station in the country that played Taylor's song on the radio.
She said so herself:
Note the Myspace page link on her poster. What a delightful blast from the past.
Taylor's very first single (that WOKQ played FIRST) was "Tim McGraw". According to fandom.com, she wrote that song in math class about her high school boyfriend.
I spoke with my former coworker, Aaron Lapierre (aka A-Train), who was working at the station the day Taylor came by. He shared that she had to tap on the conference room window to get everyone's attention because no one would let her in the front door.
Imagine, Taylor Swift in the back of our radio station where we often see deer! HILARIOUS!
Taylor made her mark on Portsmouth, New Hampshire
The story gets even better because I recently learned from a former WOKQ program director Mark Jennings, that Taylor performed a show at the Portsmouth Gaslight on the deck as a thank you to WOKQ for supporting her musical endeavors:
Can you imagine seeing Taylor Swift perform in such an intimate venue? Those people in the crowd had no idea how lucky they were!
The Gaslight holds that memory near and dear to their hearts especially since Taylor is now a renowned superstar and is selling out stadiums all over the world.
They post the picture every now and again on their social media to remind their customers you just never know who you will see performing on the deck at the Gaslight in Portsmouth. It could be the next Taylor Swift!
