We are noticing a very sad pattern on the Seacoast of New Hampshire that so many of our favorite places are announcing they are closing their doors for good

In the last month we've heard that Stonewall Kitchen, Earth Eagle Brewing, and now The Franklin Restaurant will be no longer.

What do all these places have in common? They are all located in Downtown Portsmouth where rent prices continue to increase and these businesses, that have become staples in our community, can't keep their heads above water. For people that love downtown Portsmouth and consider it home, it is very disheartening.

But back to The Franklin Restaurant. After giving the people of Portsmouth iconic happy hours for a decade, they deserve their moment in the spotlight.

My husband Steven and I were fortunate enough to call The Franklin our neighbors for three glorious years when we lived in Portsmouth. It was such a treat to be able to look out our window to see if there was a wait for a table outside.

We were frequent flyers of their happy hour where you could get $2 oysters and $5 Bloody Marys every Wed-Sun from 4pm to 6pm and LORDY did we take advantage of that! I'd love to see how much money we spent on happy hour in those three years. Nothing happy about that! (Just kidding. Those were good times and I have no regrets)

Yesterday the Franklin took their social media to announce their days on Fleet Street are coming to an end:

There you have it. We have until the end of March to slurp down as many $2 oysters as we can and savor those iconic Franklin Fries until the last order is served.

If you'd like to say goodbye in proper Franklin fashion they will be hosting a final cocktail class and a farewell dinner to say goodbye in style. Give them a follow on social media for details on that.
