Thousands Expected To Watch Snowmobile Racing In Rochester This Weekend
Even if the ground in your yard is bare, there's still plenty of snow for snowmobile racing.
Traditional oval race tracks might not be opening for months, but there will still be hundreds of drivers turning left this weekend in Rochester. Round 1 of the 2019 East Coast Snocross Series will take place at Rochester Fairgrounds this Saturday and Sunday. Josh Little, who works promotions for the series told Fosters Daily Democrat he expects between two and three thousand people each day to check out the festivities. “The anticipation builds and builds and builds, and now it’s finally here and it’s time to start racing.”
But, what about actual snow?
Like with skiing, man made snow makes things happen. According to Fosters, crews pumped 50 metric tons of man-made snow onto the grandstand racetrack overnight Monday into Tuesday. Three snowmaking guns will operate “full bore” right up until race day.
You can take in an the entire weekend for $20. Individual days will cost $12. Kids under 7 are free.
