My worst nightmare came true for two women who were traveling in Lisbon, Portugal. They got trapped in an elevator! They started to get very claustrophobic and in their panic they called the Lisbon, Maine Police Department instead of the Lisbon, Portugal Police on accident.

According to the Bangor Daily News, Dispatcher Cathy Roy picked up the call. She could tell they were panic stricken and stayed on the phone with them while she sorted out the situation. Despite the language barrier, she was able to contact emergency crews in the correct city and directed them to where the women were. The tourists were rescued!

Dispatcher Cathy Roy could have easily said, "Sorry you have the wrong number" and disconnected the call. Instead she decided to help these people in distress even if they were over 4,000 miles away.
