Very few people get their face on a U.S. postage stamp more than once.  Elvis Presley will be one of the exceptions come August 12th.

Elvis fans from around the world will be in Graceland for a special celebration.  Part of the Elvis Week festivities will be the unvailing of a new United States postage stamp commemorating the "King" for a second time this time as a part of the U.S.P.S. "Music Icons" series that has previously included Johnny Cash and Ray Charles.

In 1992 The Postal Service held a contest where the public chose the first stamp dedicated to Elvis.  The public was given the choice of either "young" Elvis as a rocker or "older" Elvis during his Las Vegas period.  I worked for the Postal Service and remembered the mixed feeling from the public about Elvis getting a stamp but the design choice was 3 to one in favor of "young" Elvis with over 1.2 million ballots cast.

That stamp was dedicated on January 8, l993 the anniversary of Elvis' 58th birthday.  It remains the most popular stamp ever issued by the U.S.P.S.

At this time the Postal Service has not made the  new stamp design public.  If I had a choice I was a fan during his "Blue Hawaii" days, but whatever the design they go with should be interesting.
