Massachusetts Has the Tallest Lighthouse in the Country at 22 Stories High, but There’s a Catch

One thing pretty much everyone thinks of when thinking of New England is a quaint, picturesque lighthouse sitting on a rocky shoreline with waves knocking up against it.  As a matter of fact, New England has more than 200 lighthouses along its 6,000 miles of shoreline.  So honestly, it only makes sense that the biggest, tallest lighthouse in the country is in New England at 218 feet tall, although it may not be what you're thinking.

The 22-story lighthouse is at Gillette Stadium.  Unlike the old one, this new operational lighthouse is 150 soccer goals tall, and we'll be able to go up to a 360-degree observation deck at the top and see the most breathtaking views.  How cool is that?  According to CBS News, this is all year round, so even when nothing is going on at the stadium, you can still go to the top and enjoy the view.

As a matter of fact, you can see as far as the Boston and Providence skylines from the observation deck on top of the lighthouse.  All of the new elements at Gillette Stadium, including the tallest, biggest lighthouse in the country, will be ready for regular season kick-off on September 10 when we host the Philadelphia Eagles.

A grand staircase leading into the stadium and the largest outdoor curved-radius sports venue video board are also a part of these new renovations. The price tag? $250 million, according to CBS News.

Meanwhile, the new video board is a massive 370 feet by 60 feet, more than five times the size of the old one.

However, when you talk about traditional lighthouses, Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in North Carolina is the tallest in the country, according to Project 543. The tallest in the world is the Jeddah Light in Saudi Arabia, according to Marine Insight.
