What Should Go Into This Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Church Lot for Sale for $2.5 Million?
Whenever I see a Facebook post in any local page with over 170 comments, I know I am in for a good read and a lot of opinions.
What else is social media for?
The post was simply a link to a property for sale on Realtor.com. The property, listed by David Garvey with Keller Williams Coastal Realty, was the North Congregational United Church of Christ located at 355 Spinney Road in Portsmouth, NH.
Although the community is certainly sad to see a church leave, the 170 (and counting) comments stemmed from the price tag and what could be going in replacement of the church.
2.49 acres listed for 2.5 million.
The listing did mention that the area could be developed into single area homes or "may be an opportunity to increase density through an innovative design, creating condo lots for units of single family housing."
"Additionally, it may be that because other properties with similar zoning have been developed into far more dense condominium units, that the opportunity to do the same exists," according to the listing.
So here is the debate. Some people are up in arms with the idea of more condos going on this property. Many think that the 2.5 million dollar ask is setting up a big buyer to purchase the lot and make the condos, limiting opportunity for small-family homes.
I see value in all options. New houses would mean more long-term locals and community members.
On the other hand, I think that condos would bring more business to small businesses around Portsmouth and surrounding towns.
Fortunately for me, I have already planted my roots in Portsmouth and do not need to worry about getting into this incredible city.
What do you think? What would you like to see happen to this spot? Have you got a cool $2.5 million to drop on the place?
