We've seen "Maine's Favorite Son" Patrick Dempsey in many different ways before -- as a neurosurgeon who always felt it was "a beautiful day to save lives" as Dr. Derek Shepherd on Grey's Anatomy, and we've seen him in skin-tight spandex for his annual Dempsey Ride here in Maine.

But we're about to see Patrick in a whole different way that we've never seen him before -- as a singer. Because according to NEWS CENTER Maine, he's about to make his public singing debut in the upcoming movie Disenchanted.

It's hard to believe that it's been 14 years since the prequel, Enchanted, came out, where Patrick played Robert Phillip, but he actually told NEWS CENTER Maine that the long wait actually adds to the sequel's charm. The long wait was apparently over not being able to agree on a script (FOR 14 YEARS?! YIKES!), but it all worked out since Patrick said that it more or less serves a bit of "a midlife crisis movie."

The rest of the original cast -- Amy Adams, James Marsden, and Idina Menzel (or "Adele Dazeem" if you're John Travolta) -- will all becoming back to star in their original roles from Enchanted as well. No pressure for Patrick, though, singing next to superstar Idina Menzel, right?

Patrick told NEWS CENTER Maine, "I've never ever sung publicly -- for a reason. So bear with me. I hope the fans embrace it."

Maybe Patrick is just being humble. I mean, you have to think writers, producers, and directors wouldn't have him sing in the movie if he couldn't sing well, unless he's supposed to sound like a couple of sick cicadas during the summer?

But when it's all said and done, I'm sure that when he sings, Patrick will sound like a...

...wait for it...

McDream(y).

I'll see myself out now.
