If you've ever been walking along York Beach in Maine during a storm you might just spot something a little unusual.

Researchers think they've discovered a shipwreck that is over 251 years old, according to WMUR.  A researcher from Cornell, Stefan Claesson, believes that under the right conditions you can spot an old shipwreck on the beach.

Claesson tells WMUR that after researching the area, he believes the ship is and old sloop named Defiance that washed ashore during a terrible storm way back in 1769.

The ship was originally headed from Salem, MA to Portland, ME when the storm hit.  Luckily, all four crew members on board managed to survive according to the article.

CNN reports that the shipwreck has been spotted four times, always following a big storm, in 1978, 2007, 2013 and 2018.   It's normally buried under sand but when those storms hit, the bones of the ship are revealed once the sand gets blown away!
