We had a total of 30 entries, and every pie looked and smelled delicious.  The five judges had a tough job, but here are the results.

Adults Division -

1st place - Jackie Stevenson, 2nd place - Beverly Dowdy, and 3rd place - Sam Maffeo, all from Dover, NH.

Youth Division -

1st place - Roman H of Rochester, NH, 2nd place - Ava A of Dover, and 3rd place -   Evy F of Wells, Maine.

Our 2nd place finisher shared her recipe, which wowed the judges, so she is sharing it with you!  Thanks, Beverly.  Now everyone can make an award winning apple pie.

Blue Ribbon Dutch Apple Pie By: Beverly Dowdy

 Crust

1 ¾ cups All Purpose flour

¼ cup sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

½ teaspoon salt

½ cup plus 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (or 1 ¼ sticks)

¼ cup apple cider

Filling

8 McIntosh apples; cored, peeled and sliced 1 2/3 cups sour cream

1 cup sugar

½ cup AP flour

1 large egg

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

½ teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice

Topping

1 cup chopped walnuts

½ cup AP flour

1/3 cup brown sugar (firmly packed) 1/3 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon cinnamon Pinch of salt

Crust

Combine sugar, flour, butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and lemon juice in a medium bowl. Cut in butter using knives or a pastry blender until it looks/feels like course meal. Add apple cider and toss gently until evenly moistened then gather into a ball. Transfer to a floured board and roll into a circle, slightly larger than the pie pan. Add pastry to pan and flute the edges; set aside.

Filling

Combine apples, sour cream, sugar, flour, egg, vanilla, lemon juice and salt into a large bowl; mix well; spoon into crust. Bake in a preheated 450-degree oven for 10 minutes. Reduce oven to 350 degrees and bake until golden brown - about 40 minutes. If edges brown too quickly, cover with aluminum foil strips.

Topping

Combine walnuts, flour, both sugars, cinnamon, and salt in a medium bowl: mix well.  Blend in room temperature butter until crumbly; spoon over pie and bake for 15 more minutes still at 350 degrees.  Enjoy!
